As you may have seen, earlier this week Rangers' loanee Glenn Middleton, discussed the possibility of extending his stay at St. Johnstone beyond the summer and revealed that he would be open to staying in Perth next season. More on that in the post linked below.
Middleton Quotes - Glenn Middleton Looking to Return to St. Johnstone Next Season. | All Things Saints (allthingsstjohnstone.com)
Well Callum Davidson has now voiced his opinion on the matter. The St. Johnstone boss clearly rates the young winger and has confirmed that if it was possible, he would keep Glenn at the club next season. The ball is in Rangers' court.
Davidson said "Glenn has had to be patient but he's come off the bench against Ross County and scored the goal that got us into the top 6. That's some achievement."
"He's worked really hard from the day he arrived here and the more I can get him involved, the better he'll be for us. But if he does unbelievably well for me in the next 5 or 6 games I probably won't get the chance to keep him!"
"He's great about the place, he wants to learn and has a really positive attitude about everything he does."
"We'll be looking to get him more game-time and then have a conversation with Rangers about next season. Hopefully that's something we can think about"
"I think he's at the stage in his career where he now needs sustained matches"
This interview is telling and shows us that Callum really rates the talented wide man. I personally think it would be a great bit of business for the club if we can get him to return as he certainly makes an impact and adds something to our squad.
The final decision is down to Rangers now as he is ultimately contracted to them but the deal makes sense. It seems to be good for both the club and the player, it just depends what his parent club want.
