5 More Player's we Would Like to see Join Saints This Summer!

This a follow-up to last Sunday's post regarding 5 players that we would like to see St. Johnstone sign in the summer, you can find that here, as you all seemed to like that we have brought it back for another week. We would gladly add a 3rd instalment if there is demand.

This is just a list of players that I think would benefit the Saints squad and I will try to only include realistic transfers. They will be rated out of 10 and there will be numerous criteria which contributes to this including player quality, compatibility, value, age and likelihood.

Lets get into it!

Scott McMann

24 year-old Hamilton left back McMann has been in the Hamilton 'Accies' first team squad since 2016 and despite his relative youth, he has already played 179 games for the Lanarkshire outfit and has even captained them on occasion.

McMann has been a solid player for Brian Rice's side this season and a dependable full back even bagging a goal and 6 assists in 36 Premiership games this season from defence. McMann has experience and quality in abundance, he likes to get forward but is also a sturdy defender.

How Would he Fit in?

McMann is incredibly versatile and can play in numerous positions, excelling in a variety of roles. This season alone he has played Centre Back, Left Back and Left Midfield. This would come in incredibly handy for a Saints squad that is the smallest in the league whilst also providing good competition for starting players.

Fee: Unknown

McMann's current contract runs until May 2022 which means that a fee will be required to take him from Hamilton, although it is though that he wants out of 'Accies' as he is too good for the championship. The newly relegated club have said that if their valuation is met then they will see him.

St. Johnstone, Hibernian and Millwall have all been linked with McMann and and it is thought that Hamilton's asking price is a reasonable one which would make him affordable for Saints who are thought to be interested in acquiring his services.

Hakeem Odoffin

Thanks to Dogger Saints suggestion on twitter we have another Hamilton Wing Back with Hakeem Odoffin, the former-Wolves man has impressed this season on the right for Hamilton since joining last summer. Odoffin has played 37 Scottish Premiership games this season, scoring 3 and assisting 1, at only 23 years old he will only improve from here.

Odoffin is a powerful all-action player who fights for every ball, whilst also being comfortable in possession himself. Odoffin has been well received at Hamilton and is considered as one of 'Accies' best players.

How Would he Fit in?

Odoffin is also incredibly versatile and has performed a multitude of positions for Brian Rice this campaign, slotting in at Centre Back, Right Back and Defensive Midfield. Being able to play so well in multiple areas would be key for the St. Johnstone side and he could easily play in our system, his athleticism would certainly benefit Callum Davidson's squad.

Fee: Unknown

Odoffin did recently sign a contract extension in March meaning that his deal will run until the summer of 2022. While this does mean that it will require a fee to prize him away from Hamilton, when he signed his extension Hamilton were hovering above the relegation zone and looked they might evade the drop once again. Their relegation may mean that Odoffin wishes to leave the club and he is certainly too good to be playing at that level.

Thomas Robert

Another twitter suggestion, young French Right Winger Thomas Robert currently plies his trade with Airdrieonians after joining the club from Montpellier in one of the strangest transfers to an outsider in recent football history in 2020. Thomas is the son of former Newcastle and PSG left winger Laurent, who also began his career at Montpellier.

The 20 year-old has gained plenty of playing experience in Scottish League One with 'The Diamonds' so far this season, playing 18 games in Scotland's 3rd tier scoring 3 and assisting 3. Robert is exciting to watch with the ball at his feet and certainly has pace.

How Would he Fit in?

Robert is only young and has plenty of time to improve and looks incredibly promising already. He can play on either the left or right flank and would provide a helpful option from the bench, with a few years of experience he could become a huge asset for the club and if he carries on as he is he has the potential to be a key player in Perth.

Fee: £0

As Robert's contract runs out in the summer he will be a free agent come the 31st of May and will therefore be available for nothing. This means that there will be plenty of competition for his signature but St. Johnstone is an exciting destination to go to at the moment and we should be able to afford his wages. Certainly doable.

Scott Tiffoney

22 year-old winger Tiffoney signed for Livingston in 2018 and has spent time on-loan at Greenock Morton, Ayr United and most recently Partick Thistle. He struggled to nail down a starting place in West Lothian, although he certainly showed promising form during his time there.

Tiffoney was in electric form for Partick Thistle following his arrival on-loan in January where he scored 7 and assisted 4 in 13 games. He spearheaded their ascension to the League One title as they overturned an 8 point deficit to Falkirk and secured promotion back to the Championship.

How Would he Fit in?

Scott Tiffoney can play on either flank or through the middle as a second striker, he is quick and potent in front of goal. Tiffoney could easily fit into St. Johnstone's team in the forward line and would inject some bite into our attack. If O'Halloran or Conway leave he would be more than an adequate replacement.

Fee: £0

Livingston have recently announced that Tiffoney has been released by the club following a failure to agree terms on a new deal for the young forward, who is now a free agent. No money would be required to bring Tiffoney to Perth which makes this an excellent deal for the club, if they can sign him he could become a big player for Saints.

Jake Doyle-Hayes

22 year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder Jake Doyle-Hayes signed for St. Mirren in November 2020 and has since become an integral part of their team. The young prospect was released by Aston Villa in summer last year without playing a game for the senior side.

Doyle-Hayes has played 19 matches for St. Mirren this season, bagging a solitary goal. He has been ever present since arriving in Paisley and is a key part of Jim Goodwin's midfield, pairing up nicely with compatriot Jamie McGrath as 'The Buddies' clinched their highest ever finish in the Premiership of 7th.

[Jake Doyle-Hayes battling with Callum Booth]

How Would he Fit in?

Doyle-Hayes is an all-action midfielder who never shirks a tackle and can maintain an intense play style. He always puts in 100% and would be a perfect fit in the middle of the park for Saints. He would provide extra cover in the centre of the park and could be a long term replacement for any of our aging midfielders, or a potentially out-going Ali McCann.

Fee: £0

Doyle-Hayes is out-of-contract in the summer and will be free to leave St. Mirren. St. Johnstone would therefore not have to pay a penny to acquire his services and I do not believe that his wages would be a problem for Saints.

Rating: 6/10

Thanks for reading, if there is demand we will happily bring out a 3rd part to this!
