Over the last few days, St. Johnstone have been linked with the signing of 25-Year-Old former-Liverpool defender Daniel Cleary.

Daniel Cleary is a right-footed Centre Back who currently plays for Dundalk FC in the League of Ireland Premier Division. He has played 34 games this season scoring twice and assisting twice from defence.
The former Ireland under-21 international has played in the Champions League and Europa League with Dundalk. He has also won 2 Irish League titles, 2 Irish Cups and an Irish League Cup.

The Irish defender came through the ranks at Liverpool but failed to make the first team at Anfield before moving onto Birmingham where he was then loaned out to Solihull Moors. After 2 years in Birmingham, he departed the club and headed back to his home country. Dan Cleary has since played 117 games for Dundalk since joining the club in 2018, making himself a key part of the side.
These rumours were substantiated by Callum Davidson himself, with the gaffer saying:
“Dan is someone we have been looking at,”
“I thought about him last summer but he was mid-season with Dundalk.
“We have contract offers out to a lot of players at the club so it’s a case of looking at who is staying and who is likely to be going.”
It certainly sounds as though Saints are keen on bringing Cleary in upon the expiration of his contract. This would be a great deal in my opinion as St. Johnstone only currently have one Centre Back tied down beyond this summer and will be in desperate need of defensive reinforcements in the coming months.

Efe Ambrose, Jamie McCart, Lars Dendoncker and Hayden Muller are all likely to depart in the summer which just leaves Liam Gordon in the defence - bringing an entirely new defence in, in one window is a disaster waiting to happen and being able to get Cleary integrated with the squad for the second half of the season could be huge for St. Johnstone.
Dan looks like a solid Centre Back who would play on the right of the three and has a vast range of experience, playing in huge European matches, playing under Brendan Rodgers and Klopp at Liverpool as well as winning trophies at Dundalk.
At 25 years old he will be entering his prime in the coming years and could become a big part of the St. Johnstone defence for years to come. He is also available for free in a months time which makes him a low-risk signing, he looks like he could be a quality player.
