Welcome Dan! St. Johnstone Confirm 1st January Signing

After over a month of speculation St. Johnstone has confirmed the widely suspected capture of Dan Cleary, with the Irish Centre Back signing for the club from Dundalk on a free transfer until the summer of 2024.

[St. Johnstone announced Cleary's arrival]

Ex-Liverpool Centre Back Cleary played 34 games for Dundalk last season, impressing with his aggressive defending whilst also proving useful in attack - contributing to 4 goals.

Cleary is right-footed and will be looking play on the right-hand side of St. Johnstone's back 3 - with Davidson likely to utilise him in a similar way to Kerr, with an influence on roaming forward when possible; something that Saints have really been missing this season.

Dan will be able to go straight into the starting line-up following the conclusion of the winter break.

Here is what St. Johnstone's latest signing said upon his arrival:

"This is a great move for me and I can't wait to get started.

"I had other offers to consider but St Johnstone is the perfect challenge for me at this stage of my career.

"The manager (Callum Davidson) made me feel really wanted and he is the type of manager I want to play for.

"I was over for a short visit last month and it was good to work with the manager, the coaching staff, and the players. I was impressed with the set-up.

"I'll be back over permanently when training starts this week and we all know how important the next few weeks and months are going to be.

"We know it is going to take hard work and dedication as the starting points to get points on the board and climb the table.

"I know I am ready for that challenge and I need to impress the manager and the staff to show I am worthy of a place in the team."

He certainly seems to have the right attitude and from what i have seen looks like a very talented player who could be a big asset for Saints - the side has missed the stability of having the same back 3 game after game, with Callum rotating between Muller, Brown, Ambrose, and Dendoncker so having a nailed-on starter should really help defensively.
